Gaza eye hospital near collapse as war leaves 1,500 blind

The Gaza Strip has faced repeated sieges and military assaults, drastically impacting its healthcare system. Medical shortages have intensified under the blockade, leaving hospitals struggling to provide essential services.

AhlulBayt News Agency: The Ministry of Health in Gaza has reported that approximately 1,500 people have lost their eyesight due to the ongoing Israeli military assault, with an estimated 4,000 more at risk of suffering the same fate. The crisis has been exacerbated by severe shortages of medical supplies and equipment, leading to the near-total collapse of eye surgery services in the enclave.

Dr. Abdulsalam Sabah, director of Gaza City's Eye Hospital, stated in a press release that the hospital lacks essential surgical tools, with only three reusable eye scissors available for operations. The continued use of these limited instruments poses serious threats to patient safety.

With resources nearly depleted, the Eye Hospital in Gaza is on the verge of shutting down its services entirely, further deepening the humanitarian crisis for those in need of urgent eye care.
